Learning HTML5

Once again, I amaze myself – I got a client request for a website and decided that HTML 5 was the way to go with this one simply because they wanted audio and what I’ve read and researched was that HTML 5 was the future for audio and video one of the most convenient features. As well as simple to use. Simple code makes deciphering the code much easier and much more pliable to most browsers. Even when I had to convert the .mp4 file I was able to do it with ease. Although the book I’m reading has a dead link I was able to find a nice video converter quickly searching in Google. This allowed me to download a small sample .mp4 video file and convert to and OGG file or .ogv – why they change the extension at this point is beyond me but it works and that’s all that matters. Therefore, again I was able to convert the .mp4 file into a .ogv file something easily readable to most modern browsers. Works both in Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, haven’t tested it in Opera or Safari yet but of course it’s giving me trouble in IE (the bain of my existence).

One thing I should note, what’s more impressive to me is that I discarded my normal program Dreamweaver (I’ve been using it since it was known as UltraDev back in 1999) I decided to try something new and guess what I really liked it. Generally you couldn’t pry me away from using Dreamweaver and while I know I’ll go back until I full learn all the capabilities that Notepad++ can do I think it will be great practice to do this whole project in Notepad++, HTML 5 and CSS3. I need some glow effects that I believe CSS3 will give me.

So the beauty in all of this I figured out solutions and I’ll be able to learn 2 programming language and how to use a new program all in one project. Not too shabby.

Well your probably extremely lost in all my geekness but suffice it to say I’m having a blast teaching myself AGAIN! And I really thought this day wouldn’t come again. Teaching yourself something new often feels like a huge burden but this time it’s like the AH MOMENT!
